The Setup

Two or more players compete across 13 rounds. Each player needs a scoring sheet and a pencil (not included with the rental — use a printed Yahtzee scorecard or any paper with the 13 categories written out). The 13 scoring categories are divided into an upper section (scoring for specific die faces) and a lower section (scoring for patterns and combinations). Each category can only be scored once per game.

Taking Your Turn

On your turn, roll all five dice. You may roll up to three times total. After each roll, set aside any dice you want to keep and reroll the rest. You do not have to reroll all dice — keep any combination you choose. After your third roll (or earlier if you choose), you must score the current dice in one of the 13 categories on your scorecard. Even if no category fits well, you must mark a zero in any category you choose.

Scoring Categories

The upper section scores the sum of specific die faces — for example, scoring all dice showing a four in the "fours" category. The lower section scores combinations: three of a kind, four of a kind, a full house (three of one number and two of another), small straight (four consecutive numbers), large straight (five consecutive numbers), and five of a kind. The five-of-a-kind roll — Yardzee — scores the highest in the lower section.

Winning

After 13 rounds each player has scored once in every category. Total all points across both sections. The player with the highest total score wins. A bonus applies in the upper section if you score 63 or more points total across the six upper categories. With 8 hours of rental time, multiple full games are possible — run a best-of-three match or a full afternoon tournament with running total tracking.

Space and Surface Requirements

Giant Yardzee uses five oversized dice that are rolled on the ground or any flat surface. Allow enough open space for the dice to roll freely without bouncing into other event areas or guests — roughly the size of a large picnic blanket is sufficient.
