Same 10,000 CFM Output — Different Diameter

Both the 36-inch and 42-inch drum fans move up to 10,000 CFM on high. The difference is the drum diameter — 36 inches vs 42 inches. The 36-inch unit has a slightly smaller footprint and is $5 less at $90. For most tent and outdoor patio applications, the airflow output is the deciding factor — and both fans deliver the same output. The diameter choice comes down to fit and budget rather than performance.

Choose the 36" for Tighter Setup Spaces

The 36-inch drum is slightly more compact than the 42-inch unit. For covered patio setups, smaller tent openings, or any location where the fan needs to fit into a specific space alongside other equipment, the 36-inch diameter gives a bit more positioning flexibility. At the same 10,000 CFM output, the smaller drum does not compromise on airflow to get that extra clearance.

Choose the 42" for Maximum Presence

The 42-inch drum fan is the larger visual unit — when the fan is part of the event setup's presence (at a tent entrance guests walk through, at the main gathering space where guests can see it working), the 42-inch drum commands more attention. For the same CFM, it is $5 more. Neither choice is wrong — it is entirely a question of fit, positioning, and personal preference at the same output level.

Fan vs Portacool — Know the Difference

A drum fan moves air. A Portacool evaporative cooler cools air and moves it. In dry conditions, the Portacool drops the ambient temperature by up to 30 degrees. A drum fan in those same conditions just pushes the same-temperature outside air across the space faster. For events where the goal is actual cooling — not just airflow — the Portacool is the right tool. For events where airflow and ventilation are the goal, or where the fan is pairing with a Portacool to distribute its output, the drum fan is the right complement.

Extension Cord Compatible — Low 7-Amp Draw

At 7 amps on a standard 110v outlet, the 36-inch fan draws significantly less power than inflatable blower motors. It can share a circuit with other low-draw accessories without tripping a breaker. The 7.5-foot cord is long enough for most event setups, and extension cord compatibility means it can reach any outlet position when the power source is farther than 7.5 feet from the ideal fan position.

Best Pairing: Fan + Portacool for Maximum Effect

Position the Portacool inside the tent pushing cooled air toward the center. Position the drum fan at the tent entrance pushing warm air out. The Portacool cools the incoming air; the fan circulates it and pushes the warm air out simultaneously. The combination covers more tent floor area with cooled air than either unit alone. This is the standard pairing for summer events in the 20x40 through 20x60 tent range where one Portacool alone does not reach all seated guests.

Tent Events — 20x20 Through 20x50

For tents in the 20x20 through 20x50 range, one 36-inch drum fan at the tent entrance drives warm air out and pulls cooler shaded air through the tent interior. At 10,000 CFM, the airflow is substantial enough to make a meaningful comfort difference in a smaller to mid-size tent on a 95-degree Texas afternoon. For tents with a misting system already installed, the fan accelerates airflow and helps distribute the cooled mist-treated air across the full tent length.

Covered Patio and Back Porch Gatherings

A covered patio or back porch with 10 to 40 guests in summer heat benefits from one 36-inch drum fan positioned to push warm air off the patio and pull cooler air from shaded areas. At $90 it is the most cost-effective airflow rental in the lineup. For small summer gatherings where the misting system is too much and the Portacool feels like overkill, the drum fan is the right level of intervention.
